Attendance records who actually showed up to a group workout, separate from who it was scheduled for. It decides who appears on the whiteboard and feeds the attendance report and the dashboard. This guide covers taking roll call, what each status does, the team's attendance settings, and how attendance relates to workout completion.
Taking roll call
Roll call is for workouts assigned to a group. A workout assigned to a single athlete has no roll call.
Open the workout on the calendar. In the workout panel, the Attendance row reads Not recorded yet until roll call has been opened, then shows how many are there, such as "5 of 9 present". Click Roll call (1) on that row, or Attendance in the whiteboard's header.
On the roll call, click a status (1) for each athlete. Each click saves straight away; there's no save button.
Roll call lists every athlete the workout is scheduled for, and nobody else: add an athlete or group to the workout and they appear, remove them and their record goes too. Use the search and the Group filter to take roll call one group at a time. Workout details opens the workout's blocks and description, Export (2) downloads the list as a CSV, and Whiteboard (3) takes you to the whiteboard.
Coaches, trainers, and managers can take roll call. Observers can't.
What each status means
Present, Late, and Excused late count as there. These athletes appear on the whiteboard, the coach PDFs, and station assignments, and count toward the athlete's attendance rate.
Absent and Excused absent count as missing. These athletes drop off the whiteboard for this workout.
Opening roll call is what switches it on
Until roll call has been opened for a workout, the whiteboard shows everyone scheduled except athletes marked Out on the roster. Once it has been opened, the whiteboard shows only athletes marked Present, Late, or Excused late. If your team's default is Absent, the whiteboard is empty until you mark people in.
Changing an athlete's coach
The Coach column comes from each athlete's coach in the group (see Groups). A coach who has athletes on a workout sees only their own athletes on its whiteboard. To move athletes onto another coach's list for this workout only, select them, click Change coach, pick the Coach (or No coach), and click Change coach. Their group coach doesn't change.
Default status and auto attendance
In Team Settings, the Attendance section has two settings.
Default attendance state is the status every athlete starts with when their record is created: Present or Absent. Athletes marked Out on the roster always start as Excused absent.
Auto attendance marks an athlete Present when they start the workout. It never marks anyone absent or late.
If your athletes log on their own phones, starting everyone Absent with Auto attendance on takes roll call for you: whoever starts the workout turns present, and everyone else stays absent. Auto attendance also works on workouts assigned to a single athlete, which have no roll call, so it's the only way to record attendance for them. See the athlete app guide for how athletes start a workout.
Attendance and workout completion
Attendance and completion are separate records. Completing a workout doesn't change an athlete's status, and marking an athlete present doesn't record any of their work. The only link is Auto attendance, which fires when the athlete starts the workout, not when they finish it, so an athlete who starts and never completes still reads Present.
Recording on the whiteboard counts as starting
With Auto attendance on, recording an athlete's row on the whiteboard starts the workout for them, so it marks them Present too. Take roll call before you click Complete all, so athletes who didn't show are off the whiteboard and aren't recorded or marked present.
On the dashboard, the Compliance card shows how many started workouts were completed, and the Attendance card shows the share of athletes marked Present. The dashboard card counts only Present, while the attendance report also counts Late and Excused late as there, so the two can differ.
Attendance reports
The attendance report, under Reports, shows each athlete's attendance rate, their number of sessions, and a heatmap over the date range, filtered by group and bucketed by day, week, or month. Each athlete's report can carry an attendance panel too.
The report counts only workouts where the athlete has a record: roll call was opened, or Auto attendance marked them present. A workout nobody took roll call on, and nobody started, doesn't appear as a session at all.
