Chat is FYTT's built-in messaging between coaches and athletes. Message one athlete, a whole training group, everyone on the team, or a hand-picked set of people, and athletes reply from the Chat tab on their phone. This guide covers starting and managing conversations, what athletes see, and turning chat on.
Finding your conversations
Click Chat (1) in the top bar. Your conversations are listed on the left, newest first; a number on a row counts the messages you haven't read. Click the search icon (2) and type to search conversations by name. Click a conversation to open it, type in the box at the bottom, and click the send button or press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac). Enter on its own starts a new line.
Starting a conversation
Click New (3) to open the New conversation panel, then choose a Conversation type:
Individual: message one person. Pick them under Person. You can have only one individual conversation with each person; FYTT tells you if one already exists.
Group: message a training group. Pick it under Group. Group conversations are only offered on teams, not at the organization level.
Organization: message everyone in the team or organization.
Custom: give the conversation a Name and add Members one at a time.
If you belong to more than one team or organization with chat on, choose which one first under Organization. Finish with Create conversation.
The people you can message are the coaches and staff of your teams, plus the athletes you manage there. Groups are set up under Groups.
Members
Click the info icon (4) at the top of a conversation to see its Members. Who's in a conversation depends on its type:
Group: everyone in the group, plus the team's coaches. Add someone to the group and they join the conversation.
Organization: everyone on the team or organization.
Individual and Custom: the people chosen when it was created.
For group and organization conversations the list is read-only, because it follows the group or team. For a custom conversation you can change the Name and add or remove Members, then click Save changes.
To remove a conversation, click Delete in the same panel (shown to the people in an individual conversation, whoever created a custom one, and the team's coaches for group and organization conversations) and confirm with Delete conversation. This deletes the conversation and its full message history for every member, and it can't be undone.
What athletes see
Athletes open Chat from the tab bar at the bottom of the app. The list shows every conversation they're in, with a search box (1) to find one by name. The Chat tab shows a count of unread messages.
To start a conversation, athletes tap the + button (2) and pick someone from Select person. Athletes can only start individual conversations, and only with coaches and staff on their teams. With no conversations yet, the button appears as Message a coach instead.
Inside a conversation, athletes read and reply to messages. The info icon at the top lists who's in it and who's Viewing now. Renaming, changing members, and deleting only happen on the web.
Turning chat on
Chat is controlled in two places:
Organization Settings › Settings › Team defaults › Conversations (1) turns chat on or off for the whole organization. Only people who can edit the organization, such as managers, see this page.
Team Settings › Settings › Athlete access › Conversations turns it on or off for a single team.
On the team's Settings tab, the Conversations switch (1) under Athlete access turns chat off for just that team, or back on. It's marked Overrides organization, only appears while chat is on for the organization, and anyone who can edit the team's settings can change it.
The organization switch resets every team
Saving the organization's Conversations switch copies that setting to every team in the organization, on or off. Set the organization first, then turn chat off for any team that shouldn't have it.
When chat is off for every team a person belongs to, Chat disappears from their top bar and from the athlete app's tab bar.
Notifications
When someone sends a message, everyone else in the conversation who doesn't have it open gets a push notification on their phone (if they use the FYTT app) and an unread count on the conversation. Opening the conversation clears the count. Chat doesn't send email.
