Surveys allow you to collect subjective data and feedback measurements from athletes using user-friendly input forms. These special forms are designed to make data collection simple for the athletes while allowing you to track trends over time. You can use surveys for daily wellness questionnaires, nutrition tracking, or any other data point you want to monitor.

Creating a Survey

Surveys are managed within the Metrics hub. To create a new survey:

  1. Navigate to the Metrics page.

  2. Click the New Metric button.

  3. Select Survey as the metric type.

  4. Give your survey a name (e.g., "Daily Wellness", "Session RPE").

  5. (Optional) Add a description to explain the purpose of the survey to your athletes.

Adding Questions

Once the survey is created, you can add questions to it. In FYTT, each question is technically a "Metric" that stores the data. To add a question to a survey, navigate to the metric edit page and click New Metric:

From here, you can select the measurement type and measurement unit, as well as give it an optional description:

Input types

FYTT offers several input types to customize how athletes answer your questions. Choosing the right input type ensures you get consistent and useful data.

Binary choice

Best for: Yes/No questions, True/False, or simple toggles.

  • Example: "Did you eat breakfast?"

  • Athlete View: Two buttons (e.g., Yes / No).

Binary choice input options

Using the input options for the binary choice selection, you can customize the text displayed for each option, as well as the numeric value that is used to represent that option in your data.

Scale

Best for: Ratings, subjective feelings, or intensity levels.

  • Example: "Rate your soreness (1-10)", "Motivation Level (1-5)".

  • Athlete View: A slider or a row of numbers to select from.

Scale input options

Using the input options for the scale, you can add as many numeric choices as you need. All values will be displayed on a linear scale that the athlete can use to select their input.

Multiple choice

Best for: Categorical data or selecting from a predefined list.

  • Example: "How was the session intensity?" (Low, Medium, High).

  • Athlete View: A list of options to choose from.

Multiple choice input options

Using the input options for multiple choice, you can add as many choices as you need with custom text and corresponding numeric values.

Integer

Best for: Countable numbers.

  • Example: "Hours of sleep", "Number of meals eaten".

  • Athlete View: A numeric input to enter a whole number.

Decimal

Best for: Precise measurements.

  • Example: "Body weight", "Hydration (liters)".

  • Athlete View: A numeric input that allows decimal points.

Deploying surveys

Surveys are delivered to athletes through Workouts. This means a survey appears as a block within their training session for the day. There are two main ways to deploy a survey.

1. Through a workout (manual)

You can add a survey to any workout block, just like you would add a set. When building a workout block, simply:

  1. Click Add Survey in the Sets section of the block builder.

  2. Select the survey from the list.

With a survey added to a block in this way, the athlete will be asked to complete all the survey data points when they execute this block in the workout.

2. Through automations (automatic)

You can set up automations to send surveys based on triggers (e.g., every morning, when added to a team).

  1. Go to Automations and create new automation.

  2. Choose a Trigger (e.g., "Time of day").

  3. Add a new Node.

  4. Select the Action node type.

  5. Select the Send Survey action type, then select the survey you want to send.

This will automatically create a workout containing just the survey and assign it to the athlete whenever the automation is triggered.

Athlete Experience

When an athlete receives a survey, it appears as part of their workout for the day.

  • In the App: They will see a block (e.g., "Daily Wellness") containing the questions.

  • Answering: They tap each question and use the specific input form (slider, buttons, etc.) to enter their answer.

  • Completion: Once they answer the questions and mark the block as complete, the data is saved and immediately available in your reports and dashboards.

Viewing Results

Since survey questions are just metrics, you can view the results just like any other performance data:

  • Overview Grid: See the latest scores for all athletes.

  • Analysis: Graph the data over time to spot trends (e.g., tracking "Sleep Quality" over a month).

  • Reports: Include survey data in your group or athlete reports.
